Quite simple. The s4c Library will collect stories from all over the world using a variety of different methods. - From scripting, shooting and editing an individual's story for them; To training individuals to script, shoot and edit their own stories; To stories that are submitted independently and made without our assistance.
It costs us from $US 1000.00 or £UK 500.00 to shoot and edit each story, post it on the web and enter it into the library, as well as making it available to other channels for broadcast.
It is our aim to raise all the money needed to shoot these stories, therefore never having to charge an individual for us to script, shoot, edit and post their personal story. At the same time we will offer each individual who contributes a story made with our assistance, the opportunity to sponsor or make a donation towards another individual's story.
The following are the initial guidelines for submitting stories independently to be considered for the stories for change library and for broadcast. If you have any questions about any of this please e-mail us at info@stories4change.org
- The stories should be no longer than 2-3 minutes in length. There is a reason for this! Firstly the longer the piece the longer the editing time, and the more likely that you're going to get stuck and the project shelved. Secondly audiences generally do not have a very long attention span. Thirdly you might not believe this but you can get a heck of a lot into 2-3 minutes. Trust us!
- The stories should be an accurate, honest representation of how and why you have been drawn and inspired to make changes in your lifestyle and behaviour to meet the challenges posed by global warming and climate change.
- Stories should be submitted on either mini-DV or DVD. If they're submitted on DVD please make sure that there are no blocks in place that would prevent us from downloading the material
- We will not be able to enter the story into the s4c library if the quality and/or content is deemed not to add and contribute to the libraries content
- All stories submitted will require a signed authentication statement granting s4c rights to the story for the s4c library and broadcast rights with author's name, address, relevant contact information*, and signature. We will also require name, address and signature of one referee who will vouch for you and the authenticity of the piece. If the author is under 16 we will require this to be an adult. (*CONTACT INFORMATION USED ON THE WEB-SITE WILL ONLY BE FIRST NAME, GEOGRAPHICAL AREA AND E-MAIL ADDRESS. FURTHER NO CONTACT INFORMATION WILL BE USED FOR SOLICITATION PURPOSES.)
We are currently developing a concise, user-friendly, step-by-step guide to shoot your own personal story. Of course you don't have to follow this but we've shot quite a few of these short 2-3 minute video stories and have found this formula to be very helpful and effective.
Particularly if you're new at this, it'll be good to follow the shooting guidelines where possible. Our aim is to have enough funding to come and help you finish your story if you do run into problems. From past experience we've found that the shooting of the story can be relatively easy but the editing can be much more complicated and time consuming.
We will provide personal support, training and equipment wherever we can, dependent on our resources. This would include all aspects of making your short personal story: scripting, camera, shooting, and editing.
